Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry assured his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Tuesday that his country rejects any foreign interference in Libya, stressing its response to such interventions that pose a threat to the security and safety of the region.
This came in a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, which said: that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed by phone with his Russian counterpart Lavrov the exact situation in Libya, where he stressed the need for a ceasefire in Libya.
The statement added, "During his presentation of the Egyptian position regarding the recent developments on the Libyan scene, Shukri stressed Egypt's refusal and its response to any foreign interference in Libya, because it represents a serious threat to the security and safety of the region."
The statement indicated that "the Egyptian Foreign Minister insisted on the necessity of resolutely addressing the transfers of foreign fighters and terrorists from Syria to Libya."
The Libyan Parliament had earlier praised the Egyptian stance in support of Libya and confronting the dangers it was facing, expressing its aspiration as well to the supportive Algerian stance, and its demand to activate the Arab Charter and joint Arab defense against direct Turkish colonialism.
It is worth noting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stressed his continued support for the Al-Wefaq militia against the Libyan National Army, indicating that he was monitoring recent developments in Libya, warning of any reckless action because he would not allow it.
